Stepping into the kingdom of King Gnu is not an experience you will forget easily.

It is a realm soundtracked by an intoxicating fusion of rock, hip-hop, pop, and classical influences and governed by four individuals — Daiki Tsuneta, Satoru Iguchi, Kazuki Arai, and Yu Seki — with a common penchant for delighting their visitors with enthralling tales.

For fans of anime and Japanese television series, it is also the birthplace of theme songs that have helped bring other universes to life, including 'カメレオン (Chameleon)' from Don't Call It Mystery, '三文小説 (Sanmon Shosetsu)' from A Girl of 35, and 'SPECIALZ', their 2023 smash hit from Jujutsu Kaisen's Shibuya Incident Arc

Whether they are creating music for themselves or contributing to contributing to a project from another medium, the Japanese rockers stick to the same approach — that is to deliver an immersive auditory experience while retaining everything that gives them their "King Gnu-ness".

"Some J-pop artists rely on the lyrics, melodies, or vocals, but King Gnu’s approach is the musicality. If you [extract] any part of our music, you can tell that this is King Gnu — you can tell [that this is] the uniqueness and world of King Gnu," vocalist and guitarist Tsuneta told Bandwagon.

Before King Gnu took the stage at The Star Theatre for the Singapore show of their THE GREATEST UNKNOWN Asia Tour, we caught up with the quartet to find out what it's like to take their 2023 album on tour, what the success of 'SPECIALZ' means to them, what what excites them about visiting a new city.
