MARQUEE Singapore delivers an exceptional experience during Peggy Gou’s sold-out showcase – gig report

Last Friday, MARQUEE Singapore was packed to the rafters for Peggy Gou’s heavily hyped return to Singapore. Given that online ticket sales were sold out in advance, and the snaking lines for the limited tickets left at the door, one could have expected to be overwhelmed by the sheer size of the crowd flocking to see the superstar South Korean DJ and producer.

Despite operating at maximum capacity, the vibe at MARQUEE was nothing short of exceptional. As any reveler who’s ever been to the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotspot can attest to - they run a pretty tight ship. From the smooth entry and quality service, to the impeccable soundsystem and spectacular lighting and visuals - the famed mega club delivers an all-around experience that goes above and beyond.

Being packed in like sardines at a club can often hinder a fun night out, regardless of how good the music is, but there was no such discomfort to be found at MARQUEE. Whether you had a table, or were simply looking for a perch for you and your friends, there was always ample space to dance and get a good view of Peggy Gou across any of the club’s spacious and well-operated three levels.

As for the set itself, Peggy Gou gave the audience a little bit of everything - going from her deep house underground roots, to big room bangers, before climaxing with a euphoric, sing-along drop of her viral hit single ‘(It Goes Like) Nanana’ that sent the crowd (and their phones) into a flash fever. It was a remarkable performance from a seasoned pro who is understandably still grieving over the recent passing of her beloved grandmother.

Special mention must also go out to legendary Singaporean DJ Aldrin who opened and closed the night in sensational fashion. The acclaimed founder of the long-running ONE WITH ALDRIN brand exemplified why he’s been such an essential staple of the local electronic music industry for well over 3 decades now.
