ONE OR EIGHT have released their new single, 'DSTM', a bold and dynamic reinterpretation of one of pop music’s most iconic anthems, 'Don’t Stop The Music'. The song is also a collaboration with veteran songwriters Stargate, who were also the producers behind the Rihanna’s iconic track.
In this new single, ONE OR EIGHT embodies the theme, “As long as the music keeps playing, we won’t stop,” capturing the spirit of living in the moment and pushing boundaries with a relentless commitment to reshaping music of this era. The stunning tribute to Rihanna’s timeless song takes listeners back to the original's dance-pop roots while being propelled by ONE OR EIGHT's catchy rap, melodic hooks, and smooth hip-hop beats.
TSUBASA shares, "When I first heard the demo of 'DSTM,' I was thrilled to learn it sampled Rihanna's 'Don't Stop The Music,' but I also felt immense pressure. Now, it's our turn to carry that legacy forward and deliver a fresh, ONE OR EIGHT-style 'DSTM' to the world. I hope everyone who listens to this song feels inspired, just like we do, to keep pursuing their challenges, dreams, and hopes as long as 'DSTM' keeps playing."
Stargate says, "When the guys in ONE OR EIGHT wanted to do a remake of our Rihanna song 'Don’t Stop The Music', we were all in. They brought their own unique flavour and personality to all their parts. It was a lot of fun revisiting this song with them. The fact that ONE OR EIGHT are Japanese, Rihanna is Bajan, the hook is from Cameroon and we're Norwegian, just shows that music really brings people together."
The sci-fi music video is set in a futuristic city where excessive technological advancement has stripped away the essence of music and art. ONE OR EIGHT embarks on a mission to reclaim music by venturing into parallel worlds.
The fully VFX-driven video, directed by Glenn Michael, a VMA-nominated talent (The Chainsmokers, The Weeknd), and edited by Mykyta Bereg (Puma, Adidas, Madonna, David Guetta), carries a powerful message that music transcends time, place, and space, ONE OR EIGHT’s challenges and ambitions will persist as long as music endures. The stunning visual effects were crafted by Gianluigi Carella of Impossible Objects.
