On 28 July, Rina Sawayama released the title track from her highly anticipated album Hold The Girl. The single serves as the third offering from the Japanese–British act's sophomore album, following prior singles 'This Hell' and 'Catch Me In The Air'.
Sonically, 'Hold The Girl' is a power-pop anthem featuring ethereal church choir elements in the song's final chorus. The song explores Sawayama's search for self-confidence and her commitment to become a better version of herself, thus complementing the self-assured nature of her previous singles.
"'Hold the Girl' was the first song I wrote for the record at the end of 2020 - I had gone to therapy and had a revelation, so I decided to write this song...that was the start of it. I was crying before going into the studio to write about it." Sawayama said in a press release.
