Simu Liu's first EP has arrived.

Released via Markham Valley Records on 17 November, the project, titled ANXIOUS-AVOIDANT, sees the Canadian singer-songwriter, musician, and actor explore the themes of love, sex, depression, and heartbreak.

The four-track EP is also described as one that is loaded with "stadium-filling hooks".

Aside from the previously released 'Don't' and 'If It's Time', ANXIOUS-AVOIDANT features two new tracks —  'Break My Heart', which was written by Liu alongside Joe Jonas, and 'Warm'.

ANXIOUS-AVOIDANT marks the beginning of my journey into music. I’ve always been an admirer of the power of songwriting and I’m hoping that these four songs on the EP will give listeners a window into a different part of me. Tonally, I wanted to create a sound that felt familiar but mature, relevant but also timeless," said Liu of the inspiration behind the EP.

"I draw a lot of inspiration from bands like Coldplay and One Republic, as well as artists like John Mayer and Lewis Capaldi. The name comes from a form of attachment style, which was recently popularized in culture and media. Anxious-avoidants are some of the most turbulent and insecure daters, and that also happens to be exactly what I am. To celebrate, I decided to write songs that encapsulated this chaos," he continued.

Best known for starring as the titular hero of Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, playing Jung Kim in the comedy series Kim's Convenience, and playing a variant of Ken in Greta Gerwig's live-action Barbie film, Liu studied piano when he was a child and regards music as a "big passion" of his.

Prior to releasing his first EP, Liu recorded a song, titled 'Hot Soup', for the soundtrack of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which also featured artists such as JJ Lin, NIKI, Rich Brian, DPR Live, and DPR Ian.

Next up for Liu is his debut headlining show at Los Angeles' Hotel Café on 13 December. During the event, he will present live renditions of tracks from ANXIOUS-AVOIDANT.
