Where and when

The event will take place at New York’s UBS Arena on Wednesday, September 11, starting at 8 p.m. EST. It was originally scheduled for 10 September, but was postponed so as not to conflict with the U.S. presidential debate. Thus, in commemoration of the date’s tragic significance, MTV is planning to donate profits from the show to 9/11 Day and Tuesday's Children.

Teddy Swims and Jessie Murph are set to make their VMA debuts by performing on the Extended Play Stage, K-pop sensations LE SSERAFIM will make their U.S. award show debut by performing on the VMAs pre-show.

Notable presenters include Cyndi Lauper, who won a Moon Man at the very first VMAs in 1984, and Carson Daly who hosted MTV’s popular TRL from 1998 to 2003.

Leading nominees

To no one's surprise, Taylor Swift leads all artists with 12 nods this year, including 8 for her and Post Malone’s song 'Fortnight'. If she wins 5 or more, she’ll overtake Beyoncé as the artist with the most VMAs in history. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter and SZA are tied with 7 nominations each.

Benson Boone, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, GloRilla, LISA, Olivia Rodrigo and Teddy Swims are next in line with 4 nods. Meanwhile, Katy Perry is also slated to receive the the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard.

This year's Song of the Summer category was on the receiving end of some backlash recently for snubbing 'Espresso' - which was the clear fan favourite.

Snubs for Ariana Grande in Best Pop and Song of the Year, as well as Billie Eilish's exclusion in most categories also raised some eyebrows.
