Posthumous releases are nothing new in the music industry. But this posthumous drop from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has got to be some kind of record. 233 years after his passing, researchers have discovered a previously unknown composition from the Austrian classical maestro at a Leipzig municipal library.
The piece dates to the mid or late 1760s, and consists of 7 miniature movements for a string trio lasting about 12 minutes - which means that Mozart wrote it when he was a teenager. The manuscript features the title Serenate ex C.
The piece has now been named 'Ganz kleine Nachtmusik'. The first modern performance of it took place last week at the composer’s birthplace in Salzburg.

It also received its German premiere at the Leipzig Opera, where, 400-metre-long queues formed in Augustusplatz, filled with fans eager to hear the performance. It was performed by graduates of the Johann Sebastian Bach Music School.
