Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning musical masterpiece Sunset Boulevard is set to make its Asian premiere in Singapore! Base Entertainment Asia and GWB Entertainment, in association with Opera Australia by arrangement with The Really Useful Group, will be presenting this brand-new lavish production at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands in February 2025.

Sunset Boulevard will be headlined by the legendary Sarah Brightman in the iconic role of Norma Desmond, marking the first time she will be performing in a musical theatre production in Singapore. Brightman is the woman who originated the role of Christine in Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, both in the West End and on Broadway. Since then, she has become the world’s best-selling soprano, topping the charts across the world.

Sarah Brightman said, “I am thrilled to be making my Asian theatrical debut with Sunset Boulevard in Singapore. I have always admired Andrew’s work on this musical and look forward to delving into the incredible score and iconic character of Norma Desmond. What makes this experience even more special is that it is happening in Singapore, a city I have always cherished. So, are you ready, Singapore? Because I am ready for my close-up!"

Based on the classic Paramount film directed by Billy Wilder, the story follows a washed-up silent movie star who has been discarded by Hollywood, and is tortured by faded glory and unfulfilled ambition. When she meets struggling screenwriter Joe Gillis in a dramatic chance encounter, their subsequent passionate and volatile relationship leads to an unforeseen and tragic conclusion.

This production features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, alongside book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton. It is directed by Paul Warwick Griffin, with set and costume design by Morgan Large, choreography by Ashley Wallen and musical supervision by Kristen Blodgette.
