For most creatives, be it writers or painters, a blank page is the most intimidating hurdle to overcome but for JUNNY, it’s the beginning of a world of possibilities.

With a spectrum of colours and an imagination that roams free, the Korean-Canadian singer-songwriter paints his own experiences and adventures into a beautiful picture that conjures up our own personal memories of love and bliss. You hear it vividly in his catchy melodies, sentimental lyrics, and soothing vocals that always find their way into our hearts.

“My music is honest, very diverse but in a way, it all makes sense,” JUNNY shares with Bandwagon. “I want my music to be convincing and I want to impact my listeners with not just a good melody and instrumental but with a message that can be relatable and easy to understand. It’s almost like being a friend through the song even if we’ve never met, haha.”

Similar to that of a painting, JUNNY’s philosophy with music features varied combinations of hues and tones, creating an incredibly versatile discography that spans a wide range of stories and sounds.

You never know what to expect from the multi-talented act and that’s the very thing that earned him a community of fans and listeners from all across the globe.

“[My greatest strength] is the diverse genres and styles I try to express with each different song and make it convincing to the audience and personally I think this is the right path for myself and who JUNNY is and what the people should expect from my music,” he says.

“I listen to various genres of music and I think it helps me with the decisions I want to take with my music in terms of what kind of topics and sounds I want to try. I think having a solid understanding of where and why the music is how it helps with my own songwriting process.”

The ‘By My Side’ hitmaker’s love for music blossomed at a young age thanks to his brothers who filled their childhood home with classic Korean tunes.

“My older brothers loved music and loved to sing. They would always sing Korean songs at home and naturally as a child, I would try and copy them. Ever since then I would get more comfortable singing around the house and eventually at school recitals,” JUNNY shares.

From there, he found his own way through music, finding inspiration in acts like Jason Mraz who led him into songwriting and trying out the guitar. Eventually, his passion for music grew and guided him to the life and career he has today. “The only thing that I was confident in and wanted to pursue was music so I went to college, studied Music Production and from there my life’s door opened and here I am now,” JUNNY recounts.

JUNNY first emerged onto the music scene in 2017 with the release of his debut EP, Monochrome and album, A.G.E. (21) but it wasn’t until a year later that he really found his stride in music.

He moved to Korea, released songs like ‘Thank You’ (which remains to be one of his most popular tracks), and found himself working with some of the country’s top songwriters and writing and producing songs for popular K-pop acts.

Soonthenafter, the ‘MOVIE’ singer started making a name for himself with his own music and rose through the ranks of Korea’s music scene.

But the journey’s never as easy as you recount it to be. JUNNY’s path through music was often met with doubts, challenges and worries, as he tried to find his own place in the industry. While most days were tough, he powered through and is now one of the most exciting artists to come out of Korea’s indie music scene.

It’s this very journey that JUNNY takes us on in his upcoming album, blanc. Described to be a “road trip” from his early 20s to today, the sonically diverse record outlines the pains and joys of his life so far, as he bid farewells to his youth and settles into the person he is today.

Taking inspiration from the possibilities that lie on a blank canvas, blanc showcases the experiences and people that have injected colour into JUNNY's days.

"I realized I’m someone who can absorb many colours rather than someone who is just one solid colour and no other colour at all," he shares. "I’ve met and have been influenced by many people throughout my life and I wanted to show what that was like throughout the tracklist."

When asked what it was like to revisit his past while creating blanc, JUNNY admits, "It was bittersweet."

"There were moments where it was a chance for me to look back and realize things weren’t as bad as it seemed at the time and certain things I could’ve done better. But in the end, all these decisions and experiences made me who I am now and humbled me a lot," he adds.

To celebrate his new album, JUNNY will also be embarking on his first-ever tour, The blanc tour that kicks off in late August and will see stops in Europe and North America.

This comes as only the beginning of everything that the singer-songwriter has in store. From collaborative projects to a lot more new music, JUNNY is just getting started.

"The most important for me is to satisfy my fans, the listeners that been supporting me since day 1 and for my music to reach as far as possible all over the world. In order to do that, I’m gonna continue to work hard for myself and my fans, and most importantly, I’ll continue to be happy and healthy throughout the process," he says.
