MOONBIN&SANHA are heading over to Southeast Asia. 

Following the release of their third mini-album, INCENSE, the ASTRO subunit are spreading their love and magic to their beloved AROHAs (ASTRO fans) in person with their DIFFUSION fan con tour. This comes as the pair's first time venturing out on tour on their own and while they're nervous, they can't wait to meet their fans once again. 

"I'm excited and nervous at the same time because this is our first unit tour, but I can't wait to go on a tour after a while. We'll make sure to have a lot of fun and communicate well with our fans," SANHA told Bandwagon. 

Before they hit the road, Bandwagon caught up with MOONBIN&SANHA to talk about their artistic growth, their current favourite artists, heading out on tour as a subunit for the first time, and the stories that inspired INCENSE. 

What were some of your memorable moments from the last year?

MOONBIN: Last year, we had opportunities to meet our fans whom we haven't been able to meet for a while. It was great to see our fans in person again, in and out of Korea. We're also looking forward to meeting more fans through our upcoming tour.

You guys are about to set off on your world tour, what are you most looking forward to about the tour?

SANHA: We're very excited to go on the world tour for the first time as MOONBIN&SANHA unit. One thing I look forward to the most is meeting and performing in front of our Korean and international fans from many countries.

What can we expect from the upcoming shows? What do you hope your fans take away from your concerts?

MOONBIN: We're planning to show the stage that was never revealed before for this fan con. Also, we're working on unique performances that will appeal different charms from those of our previous performances, so please look forward to our stage.

Since the title of this fan concert is DIFFUSION, I hope Arohas will remember MOONBIN&SANHA's unique scent and be reminded of happy memories when they think of our scent even after the fan con.

The tour follows the release of INCENSE. Could you tell us what the album is about and the story you’re trying to tell with it?

SANHA: MOONBIN&SANHA's second mini album was REFUGE, and our third mini album INCENSE represents our wish to make everyone happy in that refuge with our irresistible scent. For this tour, we decided to name it DIFFUSION because we wanted to fill the stage with MOONBIN&SANHA's original performance and diffuse our scent even more.

If you were to describe your album using scents, what would it be and why?

MOONBIN: Rather than choosing a certain scent, I hope people would remember our unique scent after watching our performance. We want them to think of us when they think of that scent. We'll work hard to achieve that goal.

Beyond your title track, the album also features each of your solo tracks. What was it like working on these songs?

SANHA: I was thinking about what kind of song I should write, and decided to write a song to show my gratitude for AROHA's love. I'm a fan of ballad songs and calm music, so I think I was affected by those genres when I was working on my solo track. I had a lot of fun writing it, so I hope you enjoy listening to it.

MOONBIN: I made the melody for 'Desire' with another composer because I enjoy listening to pop and R&B genres. For the lyrics, I was thinking how I would feel if I try to approach someone but then that person steps away from me. That was the emotion I tried to focus on expressing in this track.

Who are some of the artists that you listened to while working on this album?

SANHA: When I was working on my solo track, I listened a lot to songs by Baek Yerin. I think I was listening to her music because I also wanted to create a song that is mellow and easy to listen to.

MOONBIN: I've been a fan of pop artists such as Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes, and I was inspired by melodies from Justin Bieber's music when I was working on 'Desire'.

How does ‘INCENSE’ stand out from your previous mini-albums, both sonically and conceptually?

SANHA: There is a connectivity between our two previous albums and INCENSE, but what makes INCENSE a little more special is that we included a lot of our own ideas in this album. For instance, we both included our solo tracks in INCENSE, which is definitely special. Our performance has become more powerful for this album as well, and I think these factors make this album really stand out.

Since your debut with ASTRO, how do you feel you’ve both evolved and grown as artists? What are you most proud of?

MOONBIN: I think we all evolved in general. If you compare us from debut and now, you'll see different images or atmosphere even though we're the same people. Also, the fact that we participated in making an album, including composing and writing lyrics, despite challenges really shows our growth from the past.

What message do you have for your fans in Asia who are excited to see you guys on tour?

MOONBIN: We've prepared so many things for MOONBIN&SANHA's first fan con DIFFUSION, and we're ready to have fun with you! So I hope Aroha would have a lot of fun and remember MOONBIN&SANHA's own scent. We'll work hard to continuously show our growth and improvement. Thank you.
