Miss Saigon will be returning to Singapore.

Scheduled to run from 15 August 2024, Cameron Mackintosh’s award-winning musical by French songwriter Alain Boubil and composer Claude-Michel Schönberg, is set to play at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands, for a limited time.

The musical was last staged in the Lion City in 2001 at the Kallang Theatre.

Dubbed “one of the greatest musicals of all time”, Miss Saigon narrates the tale of Kim, a young Vietnamese woman orphaned by war, forced to work in a bar managed by the infamous Engineer. Here, she meets and falls in love with an American soldier named Chris, but they are separated by the fall of Saigon. Then over three years, Kim embarks on a journey of survival to reunite with Chris, who remains unaware of their son.

The original production of the musical first premiered in Australia in 1995 and made a comeback in 2007. A new version of Miss Saigon debuted in London in May 2014 which saw record-breaking sales and raving reviews, which later made its way on Broadway and a successful tour across the United States.

Since its debut, the musical has achieved a plethora of awards including two Olivier Awards and three Tony Awards.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be bringing my spectacular new production of Miss Saigon to Singapore. Without doubt, it is the best production of Saigon I have ever produced in Asia. I can’t envisage another show of this scale being done in Singapore for the foreseeable future,” said Cameron. The musical is now playing in Adelaide, Australia before heading to Manila, Taiwan, and Singapore.
