Every week, Bandwagon invites a guest to do a mix for us. Rather than a standard interview where the artist explains their influences, we figured it’d be more potent if you simply listened to the music.
We provide the context, they provide the sounds.
When he's not busy fronting friendly feline band MONSTER CAT, Wang Wei Yang spends the bulk of his time working under his solo production guise of Yllis. Thus far, we've only heard his amazing, fresh, otherworldly material during live shows, but we have it on good authority that the elusive beatmaker will finally be debuting his debut EP, ISLAND-01, very soon. So in anticipation of his forthcoming release, we've invited Yllis onboard the Bandwagon Mix to get a grasp of his influences. Here, Wang weaves together experimental electronic pop with wonky bass music and healthy slices of footwork and grime, all strung together by his refreshing Far East aesthetic. From Howie Lee to Aristophanes to his own untitled and unreleased beats, Yllis has crafted an unforgettable one for us.
