From breakdancing and Snoop Dogg, to Gojira and Céline Dion, to Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga - the 2024 Olympics Games in Paris has been an especially memorable one for music fans.

That trend continued into the closing ceremony, put together by artistic director Thomas Jolly and executive director Thierry Reboul, which featured prominent French bands Phoenix and Air. Phoenix kicked off the set with 'Lisztomania' before inviting other artists to the stage, such as Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Kavinsky and Angèle.

Most intriguingly, famed Cambodian hip-hop star VannDa also joined in to perform old Phoenix hits 'If I Ever Feel Better' and 'Funky Squaredance'. He also delivered a standout performance of his hit song 'Time to Rise', which served as a powerful showcase of Cambodian culture due its blend of traditional Khmer musical elements with contemporary rap.

"Most people don’t even know what Khmer is or where Cambodia is. When they listen to our music or see our culture, most of the time we hear people say it’s from other Asian countries, but in fact, it is the original Khmer culture," he told Bandwagon in a 2021 interview.
