Just as 'Finesse' was a union of two of contemporary pop's most culturally essential superstars, so is 'Please Me'. As they did on the former single, Cardi B and Bruno Mars merge their powers to sweepingly gorgeous effect, this time channeling their energies towards sumptuous, clothes-off R&B.
'Please Me' unravels its charms immediately. Both singers cut straight to the most pressing cause at hand: "Please me, baby / Turn around and just tease me, baby". Over a luxe raft of swooning melodies, via hip-hop production team The Stereotypes, and voluptuous swells of bass and warm, pulsing drums, the male half of the pairing begs his paramour for the physical release that she can give him, while she emphatically brags about what she brings to the table/bedroom.
The song caps a week-long victory rap for Cardi who took home the Grammy for Best Rap Album and became the first woman to do as a solo artist.
