Clara Benin is back with a new single.

On 15 July (Friday), the Filipino folk-pop singer-songwriter released her latest offering 'Affable Dork' via OFFMUTE. According to the 'Parallel Universe' act, The Ringmaster-produced single was written in the summer of 2015. It follows the release of last year's 'blink'.

Inspired by coming-of-age classics, 'Affable Dork' is "about the thought process of a girl overthinking her relationship with an affable dork because she feels unworthy of his attention," according to Benin.

In an interview with Bandwagon, Benin adds, "'Affable Dork' is a song I wrote back in college. It’s about that feeling of being so head over heels over someone, that you start to romanticize your relationship like you're in a cute romcom but of course that’s not always the reality."

"I grew up reading a lot of coming of age/young adult books," Benin shares the books she read. "Looking for Alaska, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Stargirl, The Last Song—just to name a few that I can remember, haha."

"I’m the kind of person who hears the music and really listens to the lyrics of a song," co-director Summer Puertollano tells Bandwagon. "I want to experience the overall feel that the artist is trying to portray. And with Affable dork, the music felt like a fragile, almost surreal, innocent kind of love. The song makes you wonder, was it all real? Was it a memory or a dream?"

"We've been working on this project since November of last year but the moment I listened to the song, I knew what I wanted to do with it," co-director Simon Te shares with Bandwagon about the visual, which was shot at Enchanted Kingdom in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. "It brought out certain feelings and my co-director, Summer, was able to string out the story in a creative black and white. But really, I'm just happy that everyone who was there during production was there,"

Puertollano adds, "It was a humid day, with bursts of rain. Plus, it was a weekend. Luckily, there wasn’t a lot of waiting time for the rides, and the curious crowd wasn’t so difficult to control."

Prior to sharing 'Affable Dork', Benin also collaborated with British producer and songwriter Lowswimmer on 'Statis' and 'Slowdown'. Having worked on "a lot of music the past year," the singer looks forward to releasing more songs this year.
