"This is particularly for Jin and the BTS boys," Coldplay's Chris Martin said before launching into an acoustic version of 'The Astronaut'.
The band performed the track, which they originally wrote in English, for the first time on the Tokyo leg of their ongoing Music of the Spheres World Tour.

The official final version, which features Korean verses written by BTS' Jin, was released in October 2022, and made its live debut at Coldplay's Buenos Aires concert on the same day. 'The Astronaut' was named by Bandwagon as one of its Top Songs of 2022, and serves as Jin's first official solo release.

On the second night of their Tokyo Dome concerts, Coldplay surprised fans with a special performance of the song, along with a dedication to Jin and BTS. "We send love to our brothers in BTS because a lot of them right now are in the army. We love those guys. In honour of BTS, we are going to play a song that we gave to Jin. We've never played this before on our own. Maybe we'll never play this again/ This is Jin’s song, this is called 'The Astronaut' and we send this with love to everybody in any situation anywhere. This is particularly for Jin and the BTS boys.”
Jin is currently serving his mandatory military service in Korea, and is slated to return in time for BTS' 11th anniversary in June 2024.
Coldplay are currently on their Music of the Spheres World Tour, with upcoming concert dates in Kaohsiung, Jakarta, Perth, and Kuala Lumpur before the year ends. The band will also be returning to Asia in 2024 for shows in Singapore, Bulacan, and Bangkok.
