Def Jam has reached the shores of Vietnam.
On Thursday (24/9), Universal Music Group’s Vietnam division launched Def Jam Vietnam, a new domestic label to house Vietnamese hip-hop and rap artists.

It is the newest addition to the Def Jam family in the Southeast Asia region after Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines.

Signing three budding, promising local artists, Def Jam is off to an exciting start. Previously, Obito and SeaChains had made waves with singles ‘SIMPLE LOVE’ and ‘WHEN YOU LOOK AT ME’, garnering over 72 million views on YouTube, while Right himself had found success by pushing through as the winner of the Bạn Có Tài Mà! Freestyle Battle.

“It’s an extremely exciting time for Hip-Hop in Vietnam, and we are committed to connect and contribute to the Hip-Hop community at large,” Joe Flizzow said, as the managing director of Def Jam Southeast Asia. “I’m looking forward to working with all these amazing and talented artists as well as [on] collaborations and tours.”
Across Southeast Asia and the US, Def Jam Recordings have signed many top and upcoming artists and singers including the likes of Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Alessia Cara, Yung Raja, A. Nayaka, and more.
Earlier this month, Def Jam SEA also welcomed onboard their first female rapper, SYA.
