Discogs' Marketplace services suspended for users in Singapore

Services offered on the Discogs Marketplace have been halted for users in Singapore.

According to a post found in the FAQ section of Discogs' official website, the city-state is now one of three markets — the other two being India and Russia — where the online music database's Marketplace feature is unavailable.

"Discogs connects music fans around the world. However, Discogs is subject to various laws, regulations, and market factors that affect how the Marketplace can operate in specific countries," explained Discogs.

As a result of this, affected users will no longer be able to order items, make purchases, and put items up for sale on the Discogs Marketplace. They will, however, still be allowed to check and export items that are already in their inventories using the seller dashboard. Users will also continue to have access to tools and features such as their collections and database entries.

Discogs added in its post that it will "monitor and review the affected countries to determine whether or not Marketplace operations can resume".

As early as 5:30 AM (SGT/PHT) on 15 December, some users in Singapore received emails from Discogs about the situation. They were also told that they will not be able to place orders from 28 December 2022 onwards and that any unpaid orders will be cancelled on that date.

Since then, local vinyl enthusiasts have taken to social media to express their shock and concern about the discontinuation of services offered on the Discogs Marketplace, with one even expressing that record collectors in Singapore were "devastated".

For the time being, record collectors in Singapore can check out physical record stores located across the island.
