Disney+ has unveiled its upcoming titles from the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
More than 20 series and movies from the region are coming to the streaming platform in the next year, with 18 of the titles being Disney+ originals. The projects include titles from Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Greater China, and Australia.
Fans can look forward to watching K-pop girl group BLACKPINK's film BLACKPINK: The Movie, as well as Rookies – a police academy drama series starring singer-actor Kang Daniel. Snowdrop, a highly anticipated series starring Jung Hae In and BLACKPINK's Jisoo, will also be available to stream on Disney+.

Other titles include the Japanese medical series Tokyo MER, the anime series Summer Time Rendering, and Taiwanese drama Small & Mighty starring actor Chen Bo Lin. The streaming service aims to feature more than 50 APAC titles by 2023.
In a press conference on 14 October, President of The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific, Luke Kang shared: “For many decades, The Walt Disney Company has been entertaining consumers and has been an integral part of the local creative ecosystem. Today, we are making another commitment by combining the global resources of the company with the best content creators from Asia Pacific to develop and produce original stories on Disney+."
"With over-the-top services going mainstream, emergence of world-class content from Asia Pacific and rising consumer sophistication, we believe that this is the right time for us to deepen our collaboration with the region's best content creators to deliver unparalleled storytelling to global audiences.”
Disney also announced its plans for the APAC Creative Experience Program – a project that will link APAC content creators up with Disney's top-notch filmmakers through masterclasses, discussions, and more.
“We hope that this program will inspire the creative community and add further momentum to the creative development of Asia Pacific, which I believe is emerging as a global content and media powerhouse," Mr. Kang shared.
“The creative talent and content we are seeing from many APAC countries are world-class, and will only get better. Disney’s unparalleled storytelling is the foundation of our special connection to our audiences and we look forward to offering top talent in the region with insights into the creative processes of the world's best storytellers.”
Disney+ is currently available in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. The service will also be available in South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan by the end of the year.
