Dreamcatcher have to revealed their charming side

Back in July, the 7-piece K-Pop act embraced the warm embrace of the sun as they delivered their latest album [Summer Holiday]. Their 6-track offering, which features the dark single 'BEcause', further explores the group's versatility and sound as they sing about love, obsession, summer nights, and sunflowers.

Bandwagon caught up with Dreamcatcher to share stories from their days in the studio, shooting the 'BEcause' music video, and their plans for the rest of the year.

Hi, Dreamcatcher! What have you been up to these days?

DAMI: Hi, everyone! We have managed to end our promotions for our [Summer Holiday] special mini album really well. And we’ve been taking the time to meet our fans virtually through fan-signing events these days. 

Your new album [Summer Holiday] is the perfect soundtrack to road trips and hot summer days! Share with us some special memories from recording the album.

SIYEON: I think the most special memory I have was when I was recording the title track. I had the most fun during our recording process for this song. There were some parts that were exciting because we were able to try something new and I had so much fun adding adlibs for the chorus.

DAMI: 'Airplane' to me was special. It wasn’t our usual charismatic tones that we would normally use, but our playful and fun vocals were used to express the song.

Your new music video for 'BEcause' showcases the group's gothic side. What was it like working on the music video? 

HANDONG: We filmed our music video at an amusement park that’s been closed down to express the horror elements and add a bit of chilly factor. And during the shoot, I remember filming outdoors in the scorching sunlight and it was so bright that we couldn’t open our eyes properly. It was very hot like a sauna. However, once we started filming, all of the members got into their roles and acted to fit the music video atmosphere perfectly! We’re pros!

YOOHYEON: One of the most memorable memories from our music video shoot was when SU A was looking down at us from above. I remember we were laughing so much at the time. I feel like we were going crazy at the time… You’ll find out more once you watch our behind-the-scenes footage. 

Dreamcatcher will be the first K-pop group ever to perform at Primavera Festival in Barcelona. What's it like to be on the lineup of one of the best music festivals in the world? Who are you looking forward to seeing on the Primavera 2022 lineup?

SIYEON: We didn’t know how to respond when we first heard that we’re part of the line-up. After hearing the news, the first thought that had crossed our minds was our hopes for the pandemic to calm as soon as possible. That way everyone could enjoy the festival and performance without any worries. This is something that we really don’t want to miss. And we also look forward to all the other performers at the festival. 

YOOHYEON: I heard that Dua Lipa is one of the performers at the festival, so I am really looking forward to seeing her!! Also, I am looking forward to seeing and feeling the energy the crowd will in Spain!

What do you hope your fans will take away from your music?

GAHYEON: For this particular summer album, we wanted our fans to feel Dreamcatcher’s definition of summer, so we prepared an album that will make our fans envision love, obsession, summer nights, sunflower, and other themes that link with summer holiday. We especially chose 'BEcause' to present Dreamcatcher’s version of summer through the lyrics and the mood that present love and obsession in our title track. 

SU A: I want our fans to know that whatever Dreamcatcher does it will always be done in Dreamcatcher style! We hope that everyone could feel that Dreamcatcher’s voices are unique! Everyone has felt that right? Hehe.

SIYEON: It’s our first time that Dreamcatcher is presenting a summer concept, so I hope our fans were able to see another charm and side to us. I also hope that our fans could recognize our love for InSomnias are expressed throughout the lyrics.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

JI U: We are working hard and putting a lot of effort into making sure that we are engaging with our fans and showing our best performances! Please continue to look forward to Dreamcatcher.
