The excellence of Ryuichi Sakamoto's work has expanded into so many aspects of our lives, even the parts we don't realise but heard every day.
Beyond composing some of the greatest pieces of music throughout the years, the renowned Japanese musician created many of the ringtones and alerts for the Nokia 8800 phone back in 2005. In honour of Sakamoto's legacy, a fan, who goes by the name Tech Product Bangers on Twitter, compiled these ringtones and alert in a short video.

BANDWAGON TV
On 28 March, Sakamoto passed at the age of 71 after battling cancer for the last couple of years. The news was confirmed on his official social media accounts over the weekend.
"While undergoing treatment for cancer discovered in June 2020, Sakamoto continued to create works in his home studio whenever his health would allow. He lived with music until the very end," an official statement on his website read.
In his celebrated 50-year career, the electronic music pioneer won an array of accolades and awards for his work on films such as The Last Emperor, Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence, and The Revenant. In December 2022, Sakamoto livestreamed an online concert, Ryuichi Sakamoto: Playing the Piano 2022, in which he performed some of his most revered works.
Most recently, Sakamoto released what is now his final album, 12 in which he chronicles his days living with cancer, where each track is titled after the day it was composed.
