The album is a candid articulation of the most visceral multitude of emotions, from smouldering rage in 'Simmer' to raw grief in 'Leave It Alone', and reflects the pains we go through in the process of trying to make peace with our own demons. In a BBC Radio 1 interview, she shared that her inspiration for the album comes from her desire to "stay soft in a really, really hard world and feel pain, and let all of it come to you and try and put something out that can redeem it all".
And stay soft she does - despite the strong emotional affliction explored in the songs, there remains a clear undercurrent of acceptance of vulnerability, and it is there that healing begins.
The full album is set to arrive on 8 May 2020. In the meantime, listen to Petals for Armor I below.
