On 3rd March, the singer-songwriter took to Instagram to share her excitement for the release of her first-ever project as an independent artist in 10 years.
The EP titled ‘Y1’ is the first installation to a five-part series that would eventually come together as a singular 5th album from her.

Following a fifteen-second intro, the EP’s second track ‘Hello’ is a light and sublime opening where the soulful Malaysian singer showcases her further evolution as an R&B artist.
In ‘Pantone 17 13 30’, Yuna sings about her ‘flaws and imperfections’ being accepted by a lover and perhaps, even herself, represented by the hyperfixation on her complexion. In a prior post regarding the song, she sheds light on the inspiration behind the song. “Growing up, I used to play in the sun and my skin would be so tan,’ she says and adds that her dark skin would deem her unattractive which had affected her self-esteem. The EP's third track stands up to conventional beauty standards with the sultry singer's golden voice.

Meanwhile, the final track ‘Cigarette’ flaunts Yuna’s lower register with her husky, whisper-like vocals in the urban pop song.
