Kakao Entertainment has announced that popstar IU (aka Lee Ji-eun) and Lovely Runner standout Byeon Woo-seok has been cast as the leads in MBC’s upcoming drama tentatively titled Wife of a 21st Century Prince.

The series is a romance drama set in an alternate version of Korea that is a constitutional monarchy. It reportedly follows the star-crossed love story of Sung Hee Joo, a chaebol heiress who is wealthy but is a commoner in status, and Lee Ahn, a prince who has nothing despite being of noble birth.

IU will star as Sung Hee Joo, the smart, competitve and beautiful second daughter of the family that owns the biggest conglomerate in Korea. Byeon Woo Seok will star as Lee Ahn, the king’s underappreciated second son who has hidden his identity his entire life before meeting Sung Hee Joo.

Wife of a 21st Century Prince is currently scheduled to air in the second half of 2025.
