JAMIE's pity party isn't what you think it'd be.
Trading tears for laughter, dimly lit bedrooms for grand ballrooms, and sad tubs of ice cream for an extravagant spread of Thai food and cakes, the Korean singer-songwriter is throwing the biggest celebration you could ever imagine.
"It's going to be big, an entire moment. There might be a dress code like Dracula-themed or gothic but I want everyone to dress however they want, not formal. And there's going to be a lot of food like Thai food and a lot of cakes. I love desserts so that's what we'll start on," she tells Bandwagon, describing her dream pity party.
JAMIE has never been one to wallow in the pains of her past. Wanting to move onwards and upwards, she's always been the kind of artist and person to use negativity as a stepping stone to something greater. It's the very thing that fuels her music.
From messages of moving past trivial facets of life to growing from a breakup, the 'Numbers' hitmaker creates anthems of growth, confidence, and self-assurance. You hear it most clearly in her latest release 'Pity Party' where she shares about bouncing back from an emotionally vulnerable situation in the most grandeur way possible.
"There's no one going down, the only way is up—that's what the song is about and why I chose to do it. I also really like the [phrase] 'pity party'. The song is like I'm throwing myself a 'pity party' but actually, I'm not. I'm enjoying my life," says JAMIE.
'Pity Party' comes as the latest solo track from JAMIE, who in the past year has been collaborating with artists from all over the world. From Saweetie and Doja Cat to BIG Naughty and Trade L, she has ventured into musical avenues that go beyond her usual sound of pop and R&B.
"I want to show a lot of another side of me while collaborating with other artists. I would never try or even make one of these songs by myself, especially when rappers want me on their songs. It's one of the hardest moments [of collaborating] because I can't rap (laughs)," she shares.
"But I think my biggest strength is that I can show a lot of different sides of me through a lot of songs. I want to be a singer that's like a chameleon so that means doing different genres and being different versions of myself in songs."
In this next year though, JAMIE wants to showcase more of herself to the world. Starting with 'Pity Party', the singer is inviting everyone to tune in to what she has lined up.
Hoping to release an album—which she shares she's more than ready for—and perform live sometime this year, JAMIE wants to reconnect with her fans and give back the love she's received throughout all the ups and downs of her journey.
"I just have all this energy that they give to me and I want to send them back my energy. So, to all the international fans and all the BabyJs [JAMIE fans] out there, I really appreciate the support that you guys gave me with 'Pity Party'. There are a lot of great comments and I really loved it and I read it all. Thank you so much and please look forward to me," she says in a message to her fans.
