On a star-studded F1 Singapore Grand Prix 2024 weekend, none shined brighter than Kylie Minogue — festival report

McLaren's Lando Norris was in a class of his own during the race, but so were the concerts during the F1 Singapore Grand Prix 2024 festivities. The star-studded weekender was chock-full of exceptional musical performances, and no heat or squall could dampen our spirits.

Friday

Voice of Baceprot

On a pop-heavy lineup, it was a metal band from Indonesia that delivered one of the most exhilarating sets. Voice of Bacebrot - the hijab-clad, all-female trio of noise-makers - thrilled the 3,000-strong crowd at the Downtown Stage with a thunderous explosion of thrash, funk, rap and progressive metal that simultanouesly melted our faces and invigorated our spirits.

OneRepublic

BANDWAGON TV

American sensations OneRepublic played to an estimated 50,000 people at the Padang Stage to close out Friday night. Boasting well-known songs such as 'I Ain’t Worried' and 'Runaway' (Ryan Tedder reminded fans that its music video was filmed in Singapore), the band had the crowd eating out their hands. Although their set threatened to be drowned by a sudden downpour, fans were still 'Counting Stars' all the way home.

Saturday:

BABYMONSTER

Even though BABYMONSTER played an early 4.45pm set at the Padang Stage, but K-pop rookie girl group still managed to draw a sizeable audience depsite the blazing heat. And the throngs who came down to show their supprt were not diappointed by South Korean septet’s lively chereography and livewire stage presence.

Performing seminal tracks such as 'What Can I Do', 'Radio' and 'So Young' at the Wharf stage, The Corrs took many millennials back to their youth with their unforgetabble repertoire of Irish pop hits.

Kylie Minogue

Even in a lineup of superstars, Kylie Minogue was undeoubtedly the highlight of the entire weekend.  Backed by 10 dancers and 3 vocalists, the 56-year-old wonder looked ravishing as she enthralled fans with recent chart-toppers like 'Tension', 'Padam Padam' and 'Edge Of Saturday Night' (featuring The Blessed Madonna); alongside 2000s faves such as 'Can’t Get You Out Of My Head' (which sparked a dance frenzy on the muddy fields), 'Slow' and 'In Your Eyes'. She even performed her 1986 hit 'Locomotion', as if to emphasize that her era-spanning discography had made her beloved and relevant to Generation X, millennials and Gen Zs. Kylie deserves all the flowers.

Thirty Seconds To Mars & Lenny Kravitz

Jared Leto took time off from his busy climbing schedule to deliver a raucous performace with his band Thirty Seconds at the Padang Stage. Taking place just before the race, the alt-rock's band's performance served as the ideal appetizer for the high-octane event to come.
