Find out what it's like to actually see emotions with the upcoming Life is Strange: True Colors.
Square Enix has delivered a deeper dive into the latest title from the graphic adventure game series. Developed by Deck Nine Games in collaboration with Square Enix External Studios, Life is Strange: True Colors follows the story of Alex Chen, an all-new protagonist who explores her supernatural abilities of empathy by solving mysteries in the quaint small town of Haven Springs.
The livestream, presented by singer mxmtoon, who is also the singing voice for Alex Chen, gave more insights into the visuals, gameplay, and narrative impact of Alex's empathy and how the player's choices impact the end of the game. It features "story-vital power moments" which help Alex discover different perspectives of the primary characters that Alex can see around them.

Alex has the ability to absorb a character's emotional aura by connecting with them and can feel their emotional state. This experience transports Alex into a unique emotional world and transforms her perception of the world around her.
"From a gameplay perspective, the development team wanted a fun gameplay mechanic that supports our strong narrative and allows players to use the Empathy power in unique ways to learn more about Haven Springs, the characters surrounding Alex, and ultimately Alex herself," Life is Strange: True Colors Game Designer Christopher Sica shares in a statement.
According to Sica, "Blue auras symbolize Sadness; Purple auras symbolize Fear; Red auras symbolize Anger; Gold auras symbolize Joy. Each emotion has a unique UI icon, animation, and VFX to connect the visual design with the emotion."
