Melbourne-based DIY label Potatoheadz has been making a name for themselves with a string of wonderful cassette releases, featuring fresh beatsmiths such as Sedgwick, DJ Oyster, and most prominently, Singaporean-Australian production team Young Spice.
Made up of Leon The Professional and Colombo Kidd, the have been prolific in recent years for making raw, dusty beats - ranging from sample-heavy boom bap hip-hop to jazzy house and techno tunes.
Most recently, Young Spice have just launched a dreamy new single entitled 'Waves' under the aforementioned boutique imprint. A nostalgic and reflective house number, this beaut is yet another standout winner for the surging duo.
As they explain, the track was actually made during a spur of inspiration, "a single take jam recorded onto tape using an MPC1000, some samples, a synth and a TR8 Drum Machine."
Young Spice also advises that you listen to 'Waves' in more intimate settings: "This one ain't for the club, it's for afternoons at home, or commuting to work, best served on headphones, or on your home hi-fi system."
'Waves' kicks off Potatoheadz's brand new premier series called Fantasy 12inch A-Sides. Expect more single releases from different artists in forthcoming weeks - all available for free download via their SoundCloud.
