Lyn Lapid is one of music's newest rising stars.
The Filipino-American singer-songwriter first turned heads with her a TikTok clip of her original track titled 'Producer Man'. Relaying her experiences with a bad producer, the video blew up all over the short-video platform, accumulating tens of millions of views.
"It was really surreal, I'd have to admit. I kind of posted it just as a little tune that I made about a producer that I did not have the greatest experience with, I didn't think that anybody would see it but a lot of people did," Lyn tells Bandwagon.
@lynlapid u won’t catch me selling my soul to be another Barbie doll pop star controlled by the industry. PERIODT. ##fyp ##musiclives ##foryou

Over a year since she's gone viral on TikTok, Lyn is now a full-fledged musician (with a good producer, don't worry) signed with Republic Records. As part of her new musical chapter, the 19-year-old recently released a new single titled 'In My Mind' that she dedicated to shy and quiet kids all over the world.

Bandwagon recently caught with Lyn to talk about everything from TikTok to K-pop and what she has planned for 2022.
Congratulations on the release of 'In My Mind'. Walk us through the story behind the song.
I wrote 'In My Mind' sort of about my experience growing up as a quiet kid and all the different things that go throughout my mind that I wouldn't say out loud but now all into a song.
Now being a “quiet kid” releasing music for millions of people to hear, how do you deal with the attention?
I kind of just take it all in. I think it's so cool that so many people are listening to my music and relating to the message that I put in my songs, that so many other kids around the world can relate to, you know, what I wrote in the song. The attention is really cool and the fact that now so many people are finding out about it.
How would you describe the music that you make?
I would definitely say that my music means a lot to me. I often write about my personal experiences, you know, different things that go throughout all my life, my identity, I try to write about everything. I guess that's why my music is really important to me because it's a very good reflection of who I am as a person and all the things I have to say.
A lot of who you are is in your music. Does it ever scare or worry you to share so much of yourself with a lot of people online through your music?
It is kind of scary but I think making music and writing is a healthy way to kind of talk about my feelings and my experiences. So yeah, I feel like it's a great way to kind of express who I am in a healthy way.
You blew up on TikTok because of your original track ‘Producer Man’, what was your initial reaction when you saw it going viral?
A lot of people really, really loved what I had to say in that first TikTok that I posted and it was so cool that so many people around the world were like singing to it and dueting it. It was really taking off, it was crazy. It even kind of became a trend on TikTok for a bit.

You released the official version of 'Producer Man' like last year, did you feel any pressure after the reception it's had in the past year?
Yeah, it was super scary because it was my first release. I feel like I had this sort of standard that I had to hold up when I released 'Producer Man', especially having it be my first release. But I'm really grateful for all the support and love that it got over this past year.
Since we're on the topic of TikTok, who are some of your favourite creators?
Ooh, I would have to say... I can't say any names because I can't remember their names but I do watch a lot of cooking TikToks and food TikToks. That has been all over my For You Page recently so I'd have to say anything that has to do with cooking I'm just constantly watching.
@lynlapid I’m so happy rn thank you guys for all the love on “in my mind” :)) ##fyp ##NissanShowUp

Who are some of your favourite artists that you listen to? I've seen that you've been into K-pop recently, who are some of your favourite groups?
Yeah, I'm super into K-pop recently! BLACKPINK was the first K-pop group that I got into and I would say that my bias right now is Rosé – she's so gorgeous, I love her. Other groups that I listen to are of course BTS – they're probably my favourite group at the moment. I also listen to other groups like TWICE, ITZY, TXT, and Stray Kids. Yeah, I'm all over the K-pop scene recently.
@lynlapid since my spam acc was hacked imma post this here, follow the new one :)) @therealdryerlynt (DELETING)

Who are some artists that you want to collaborate with in the future?
There's an artist at my label, his name is Conan Gray. He's all over the world right now and I think he's so cool. I love his sound, he's a big inspiration for my own music too. I think it'd be so cool to work with him.
@lynlapid since y’all have me sing this song at least 5 times on live :) ##fyp ##FashionFavorites ##foryou##voiceeffects

What are some plans and goals that you have for your music in the next year, especially after signing to a major label?
Yeah, I have a lot of new stuff coming. Basically, I have a lot of projects lined up and I'm really excited for everybody to hear it. I guess my, the first goal that I want to accomplish is performing live for my fans because I haven't done that yet in person because of the pandemic and everything so I feel like that is the first thing that I really want to do when I get the chance.
