2017 was a great year for concerts in Manila - Coldplay finally made it to Philippine shores, Phoenix played to "the best singing crowd ever", and Slayer rocked the Kia Theatre (without moshing).
2018 is also shaping up quite nicely already, with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, two One Direction members, and indie pop's biggest acts playing concerts in the first half of the year.
While we're still waiting for more female artists to drop by (Dear Lorde, Manila is waiting), here are the shows you should watch out for in 2018:
Cynthia Alexander
BANDWAGON TV
Cynthia Alexander is set to return to Manila with a new album in tow - Even Such Is Time. The folk songstress announced in October 2017 that she was working on her new record, and asked fans for help via an Indiegogo campaign. Alexander will be joined by indie folk-pop nine-piece Ben&Ben in her much-awaited album launch.

Tricot
Thanks to Terno Recordings, Japanese math rock outfit Tricot are heading back to Manila. The Kyoto-based band released their third album, '3' in early 2017 and have also made their touring drummer, Yuusuke Yoshida, a full-time member by the end of their world tour. The band will be coming to Manila as an official four-piece in 2018.

ONE OK ROCK
ONE OK ROCK are heading back to Asia with their biggest tour to date. The Japanese rock band will be returning to Manila with their eighth studio album, Ambitions. The band was originally slated to support Linkin Park's Japan tour, prior to the passing of Chester Bennington. ONE OK ROCK's Taka Moriuchi took part in the Chester Bennington tribute show at the Hollywood Bowl.

Foster the People
Foster The People will be making their return to Manila, as part of their Sacred Hearts Club Tour. The band released their third studio album, Sacred Hearts Club, in July, which spawned the singles 'Doing It For The Money', 'Loyal Like Sid & Nancy' and 'Sit Next To Me'. This will be the band's second time in Manila, having made their debut in the country last 2012.

The xx

The Mercury Prize-winning trio made their Manila debut in 2013 to a packed crowd at the NBC tent. The band was in Asia in early 2017, but didn't have time for a proper Asian tour. The xx are set to return in the first quarter of 2018 to promote their latest record, I See You.

Oh Wonder
Oh Wonder, the British indie-electronic duo who first graced our shores in a local music festival in 2016, are set to make their third trip back to Manila. The duo, composed of Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West, visited the country one year later and performed to a sold-out crowd in Samsung Hall. Check out what happened in their 2017 concert.

Paramore
Paramore are set to visit Manila for the first time since 2013, making their 2018 performance their third visit in Manila. In May 2017, the band released their fifth studio album, After Laughter to critical acclaim, but got mixed reactions from long-time fans. The band dives into 80's synthpop territory in the new record, leaving behind their pop-punk sound, which fans have grown accustomed to. Paramore's Manila concert is the only Southeast Asian date on the calendar so far, with the band touring in Australia in early February 2018.

Sobs x Subsonic Eye
Singaporean record label Middle Class Cigars have announced their first overseas tour for indie pop trio Sobs and alternative dream pop act Subsonic Eye. The bands will be touring Asian in late February and early March and are set to perform in Manila alongside the likes of Ourselves the Elves, Memory Drawers, Ruru, and more.

Manila is a city of firsts for LANY. Wanderland 2017 was the first time a crowd of that magnitude showed up just to see the band play and their series of five shows in August was their very first mall show experience. Canadian hardcore punk band, Counterparts and American metalcore band, Stray From The Path are set to tour Southeast Asia for the first time this April. Counterparts have been in the scene for over a decade, with their latest record, You're Not You Anymore being released in 2017 to rave reviews. Stray From The Path are considered veterans in the metalcore scene, with their debut dating back to 2001. Their latest record, Only Death Is Real was released in September of 2017.

Zedd
Zedd is making another trip back to Asia next year. The producer was just in Manila last September as a headliner for Road to Ultra: Philippines, but he's coming back sooner than expected for a full concert. Zedd is taking his Echo Tour to Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, and Manila in 2018. The Grammy Award Winner is currently working on his third studio album.

Sandwich is turning 20 this year and has already kicked off the celebrations with the release of their new single, 'Time Lapse'. The band will officially celebrate their 20th birthday with Under the Glow of the Satellite: Sandwich's 20th Anniversary Concert. In an interview with Bandwagon, guitarist Diego Castillo shares that they're toying with the idea of performing 20 songs from their complete discography and recently had a listening session to try and choose what they all wanted to do. Castillo admitted it was much harder than he expected, having a total of 8 albums in their discography.

Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars is finally taking his critically acclaimed 24K Magic World Tour to Manila in 2018. The Filipino-American pop star was last in Manila in 2014, where he played to a sold-out crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena. Tickets to the award-winning performer's 2018 Manila show were sold out in less than an hour and a second show was announced shortly by promoters MMI Live. Tickets were snapped up for the second night as well, leaving both concert dates officially sold out.

Ed Sheeran
Originally slated for a full Asian tour in late 2017, Ed Sheeran was forced to cancel and postpone some of his shows due to a cycling accident. The singer-songwriter fell off his bike while cycling on the streets of London and injured his wrist and arm, making him unable to play the guitar in time for the tour kick-off in Taipei. Sheeran was gutted to announce that he had to reschedule his shows, especially his Manila concert, where he claims he has his biggest market in the world. Filipino Sheerios need not worry, as the troubadour will be back in Manila by early 2018 to perform 'A Team', 'Lego House', 'Thinking Out Loud', and tracks off his latest album, Divide.

Niall Horan
Niall Horan just released his solo record, Flicker (which debuted at number 1) and is set to embark on a world tour in support of the new album. Horan made his Philippine debut with One Direction in that infamous Manila concert in 2015 (the one where Zayn didn't show up and announced he was leaving the group six days later) and returned for a quiet solo trip to Boracay in early 2016. The singer-songwriter made the rounds in Asia in early 2017 to promote his solo work and will be back in the region next year.
