Mitski is back and better than ever.
After a hiatus that lasted over three years, the singer-songwriter's much-anticipated return is finally a reality as she has just released a new song entitled 'Working for the Knife'.

Accompanied by an introspective music video directed by Zia Anger and produced by Patrick Hyland, this will be Mitski’s first new single since 2018’s critically-acclaimed album, Be The Cowboy.

Known for bearing raw emotion in her oeuvre of works, the 'Nobody' act's heartfelt lyricism is captured at the very beginning of the track as she laments: “I cry at the start of every movie/I guess cause I wish I was making things too.” This opening line fully captures Mitski’s vulnerability as she reminisces over her experience as a touring musician.
Throughout the number, Mitski wears her heart on her sleeve as she sheds her cowboy alter ego in a choreographed dance at The Egg in Albany, New York.
And finally, at the denouement of the song, Mitski collapses on the stage after belting out the final line: “I start the day lying and end with the truth/That I’m dying for the knife.”
As a lyricist who has always been brutally honest when it comes to channelling her tribulations into her music, Mitski never fails to put out show-stoppers that her cult following can relate to. If you've been a long-time fan of Mitski, definitely keep your eyes peeled for her next release!
Mitski also announced a spring 2022 tour of North America, the UK and Europe.
North America presale starts tomorrow at 10AM local time, tickets for all shows are on sale Friday.
