NIKI is back with a new single.

On 3 June, the Indonesian singer-songwriter unveiled her latest song 'Before', a sentimental track about navigating the end of a relationship and learning to let it go.

"'Before' is the irresolute ending to my very first love story. I wrote it as a means to create the kind of closure I never had. I also feel it’s ironically poetic to open this new chapter by telling you how it ends first. I’m so proud of it, and I can’t think of a better song to introduce the ultimate break-up record I’ve always fantasized of putting out but somehow haven’t…until now," she said in an official press statement. 

'Before' comes as a preview into her long-awaited sophomore album, Nicole which NIKI describes as "my most favourite thing I have ever made as an artist". Serving as a homage to the artist she was before she got signed to 88rising in 2017, the record brings to life songs that were written by "high school Nic". 

In a statement shared on Twitter, NIKI said Nicole—which will drop this August—will be divided into two parts. The first half is said to feature re-recorded and reimagined versions of new and archived songs while the latter half will see original songs that were first uploaded to her old YouTube channel, nzee24. 

"This project is without a doubt my most favourite thing I have ever made as an artist. It's where younger me and current me meet and hang and have a f**king blast together. No words adequately convey how stupid proud I am of it and every part surrounding it," said NIKI.

Nicole is set to follow 2020's MOONCHILD.
