The Pokémon Company has finally released new details about its major 2022 game.
On Wednesday night (08/18), brand new footage from the upcoming open-world game Pokémon Legends: Arceus premiered during the latest Pokémon Presents livestream showcase. Developed by Game Freak, Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes players to the East Asian-inspired Hisui region, where they'll get to experience a different adventure as they turn the clock to the early days of Pokémon trainers.
Welcome to the Hisui region, Trainers.

This time around, it isn't the Pokémon that hide in the tall grass, but the players as they opt for stealth to capture new monsters with steam-puffing wooden Poké Balls.

Trainers must go out on Survey Missions to catch Pokémon that roam free across the Hisui region as part of the Galaxy Team. Plus, it isn't just your trained monsters that get damaged—even the player themselves can get zapped by Thunderbolt if they aren't careful.

Pokémon battles are also getting a makeover on Legends: Arceus. The modified active-time battle system features a more strategic take and includes action orders—Agile Style and Strong Style—that could let players take quick multiple turns in a row or go all out with a single super powered attack.
Tonight's presentation also revealed Wyrdeer (the next evolution of Stantler) and Basculegion (the next evolution of Basculin), new monsters that will appear in the upcoming game, as well as the Hisuian forms of Growlithe and Braviary.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch this coming January 28, 2022.
