RAMENGVRL and pH-1 on working together for their collaborative single 'Ain't No MF'

We believe in RAMENGVRL and pH-1 supremacy.

Combining their forces and tenacity, the two rap powerhouses have come together for a self-love anthem like no other, titled 'Ain't No MF'Straight up and in your face, the single is all about making you feel like the "bad bitch you're supposed to be".

"It's a bravado type of song where you just acknowledge your own 'supremacy' and realize how far you’ve come and there shouldn’t be any particular reason for that, should it? Like there ain’t no MF like me—there’s only one person who can do me," RAMENGVRL tells Bandwagon

The Indonesian rapper is well known for her power anthems, like 'I AM ME' and 'CA$HMERE', that exude a sense of empowerment and "conquer all" attitude. 'Ain't No MF' is no different, overflowing with confidence and alpha energy.

Wanting to add another layer of intensity to the single, RAMENGVRL recruited Korean rapper pH-1 who immediately hopped on the project.

"I first discovered [RAMENGVRL] music when she collaborated with Ted Park. She contacted my label that she wanted to work with me. I then heard the song 'Ain’t No MF' and loved it," pH-1 shares.

"I was so happy because I’ve been low-key a fan of him especially since I’ve been really into what H1GHR Music is doing at the moment, and he’s just one of the most versatile artists alive that I know," adds RAMENGVRL.

Hailing from Indonesia and South Korea respectively, RAMENGVRL and pH-1 worked on the track remotely which, despite tedious emails, never proved to be a challenge for the pair. Despite coming from different corners of Asia, 'Ain't No MF' came together like a perfect puzzle.

"Her lyrics and flow were very catchy and her verses were strong but at the same time had a bit of humour in it, which I thought was super dope. I tried to match her energy in my verse by being aggressive and witty without being too serious," said pH-1.

"[For the music video], we actually had pH-1 shoot his part first because the team already kinda knew the basics of what the visuals gonna be like and they just beautifully stitched it," said RAMENGVRL.

'Ain't No MF' dropped alongside a music video put together by Andrea Wijaya and the team at Otherlands Production. Aptly so, the visual was inspired by the iconic action film The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift because in the words of RAMENGVRL herself: "What’s more baller than being on top of a fancy vintage car and having some dope-ass bike stunts?"

"Drea and her team immediately took it to the next level with some more details – like a muscular dude to put some more female gaze on to this very masculine industry lol. I’m very happy with the result cause Drea originally wasn’t a hip-hop-focused director, and mind you it’s kinda hard to find that in Indonesia, but she and her team nailed it," says the 'Can't Speak English' hitmaker.

'Ain't No MF' comes as RAMENGVRL's latest collaborative track, following 'Look At Me Now' with Ted Park, and 'Go Get That B' with Inayah. When it comes to collaborations, the young rapper has always had a knack for meshing her distinctive personality and musicality with other artist's like they were always meant to be together.

"Depending on who I’m working with, I always like to 'switch it up'. But, I know my individuality is something that got me here so I always remember not to stray too far from the cadence, word choices, flows I like to do, while still challenging myself to new things," she said.

When asked about their dream collaborations, pH-1 mentioned the likes of Mahalia, Aminé, Saba, Buddy, and Hope Tala. While RAMENGVRL shares wanting to work with Nicki Minaj, Jessi (a KWEEN, she described), Jay Park, Rina Sawayama, Bree Runway, Baby Tate, Ashnikko, and her long-time favourite artist Utada Hikaru.

"People don’t really know this but I’m a big fan of Utada Hikaru since I was in junior high school so If I ever get the chance to collaborate with her I’d probably have a blackout or something," the rapper adds.

While RAMENGVRL will still be busy as ever, working on an array of releases and new music slated for 2022 – including a top-secret project involving East Asia. "I don’t think we can spill on that now but one thing's for sure.no rest for me," she says.
