Filipino trio The Buildings is poised to embark on a two-week tour in Japan, from Kanto to Kyushu. And fans who have been following the band since they were first formed in 2014 have the chance to help them.
The Filipino fuzz-pop act is running an ongoing crowdfunding campaign on The Spark Project where those who'd like to support may pledge an amount of their choice. In exchange, pledgers will be given rewards, such as merch, acknowledgments in their future projects, a special live recording album featuring other Manila bands, and even a private show from the band.
“We’ve been a band for eight years, and it’s been a massive dream for ours to go on tour in Japan, whose independent music scenes are alive and kicking,” Mariah Reodica (vocals, guitars) says. “It would be a big chance to bring a bit of the Manila music scene to different towns and cities.”
Aside from playing in Tokyo, the band is also set to perform in Hiroshima, Kumamoto, Fukuoka, and Hamamatsu where they will be joined by Japanese acts SACOYANS, Doit Science, and P-iPLE. The band has also performed in Singapore and Southern Luzon, funding their own tours at that time.
“The invitation to tour in Japan was offered to us as far back as 2017,” says Kean Reformado (drums). “Back then, we were wondering, could we actually make it happen? But after everything that’s happened in the past two years, we decided that now is finally the time.”
Founded in 2014, The Buildings is known for their melodically iridescent indie rock. Their propulsive live performances have also won over listeners around the Philippines and overseas. Their 2021 sophomore album Heaven is a Long Exhale has also received acclaim from various media platforms.
“Following the warm response our album received in Japan since we released it last year, our determination to connect with our Japanese audience has only gotten stronger,” says Dom Zinampan (bass).

The Buildings will be jetting off on their Japan tour this February, with stops in Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kumamoto, Fukuoka, and Hamamatsu where they will be joined by Japanese acts SACOYANS, Doit Science, and P-iPLE.
