TOMORROW X TOGETHER bring MOAs to wondrous fantasy realms in Singapore debut — gig report

For a band that claimed to be “anti-romantic”, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) certainly had no problems capturing hearts and making fans fall for them at last Saturday’s concert.

Fans, affectionately known as MOA, who braved the April showers on 1 April 2023 were rewarded with an unforgettable concert experience by Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai at the Singapore leg of their second world tour ACT: SWEET MIRAGE held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Presented by CK Star Entertainment, the sold-out concert from the BIGHIT Music K-pop boy group unlocked yet another milestone for TXT and MOA alike as it was the group’s first time performing a live show in Singapore.

On their first concert in Singapore, Yeonjun shared: “Today was great. Not only great it was perfect and now I’m ready to put on an even bigger concert with even more of Singapore’s MOA. Thank you so much for waiting for us, I love every single one of you."

Upon entering the famed concert venue, MOA were instantly transported to a sweet blue mirage with scintillating strobe lights illuminating their surroundings. The concert, which was greatly inspired by the webtoon The Star Seekers created by HYBE, featured intricately crafted themes of magic and fantasy that were expertly woven throughout the show. The captivating VCRs told riveting tales of the members facing dangerous quests, fending off foes, and possessing mystical powers. Throughout the entire experience, audiences were kept at the edge of their seats, clamouring for a better glimpse into the expanding lore of TXT.

Making their grand entrance in striking princely outfits, the five members welcomed MOAs into their intriguing world with ‘Blue Hour’ and ‘Can’t We Just Leave the Monster Alive?’ before shedding their regal appearance for more comfortable fits that showcased their endearing boyish charms. The lovable performance for ‘Cat & Dog’ that followed was a welcomed throwback to their debut album The Dream Chapter: STAR.

Light sticks are known to play an integral role in many K-pop groups and TXT are no exception. Before the show started, a booth was set up outside the stadium for fans to pair their “moabongs” with the show’s system, hinting at what they could expect in the concert later. Sure enough, in true unified fashion, the five members held a fun candid segment exploring the light stick’s features with their fans, warming them up for the rest of the performances that night.

It was in ‘Anti-Romantic’ where we really got to witness the distinct vocal intensities of each member through the moving emotion-laden song. A spotlight highlighted each member as they took their turn to sing to their fans. As all MOAs present can attest, each member was capable of holding their ground and letting their songs speak for them in what turned out to be a spirited, riveting, and vocally-driven performance.

The high-octane performance for ‘Eternally’ ran the entire gamut of emotions from iridescent blue sweet tranquility to fiery red burning passion. A fan can be overheard saying: “This is the best song ever,” and it was arguably so especially for fans wishing to experience the different facets that TXT possess all at once.

We cannot talk enough about the exhilarating performances that the five members delivered that night. It is by no means an easy feat to maintain the same infectious dance energy throughout a three-hour-long concert. Still, TXT clearly showed that they excelled in doing so, along with stage expressions that look like they’ve been brought straight out of their music videos.

But above all that makes TXT such a group to watch out for, a slew of fan favourite songs like ‘9 and Three Quarters (Run Away)’ where Hueningkai showcased his impeccable dance skills in a mesmerising solo dance outro, ‘0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)’, ‘LO$ER=LOER’, ‘Good Boy Gone Bad’, and ‘Sugar Rush Ride’ simply stood out to us. So much of their choreography was a testament to their team chemistry. With elements such as connecting and synchronising their movements with each other, it leads one to marvel at each showcase of their teamwork, evident talent, and versatility as artists.

Taking a short respite from their energetic performances, the TXT members proceeded to lead fans in a fun-filled dance segment for ‘Happy Fools’. Though it was (fittingly enough) April Fools’ Day, MOAs were certainly not fooling around when they put away their mobile devices and immersed themselves in following the simple yet catchy dance steps of the song Yeonjun himself choreographed. The spectacle resulted in several looks of adoration from TXT for their fans as they watched them take on the “Happy Fools Challenge” on the spot.

Rounding up the performances of the songs on their latest record The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION, ‘Farewell, Neverland’ was, simply put, a sight to behold. On its own, the song’s lyrics held themes of pensive melancholy. However, TXT’s performance was anything but. The awe-inspiring spectacle that expressed the song’s thought-provoking narrative saw the five members looking ethereally dreamy as they pulled off hard-hitting choreography amidst a starry field.

In one of the more heartfelt and memorable segments of the night, TXT ended the concert with ‘Blue Spring’, which is a song written as a love letter to their beloved fandom and performed for the first time during their ACT: SWEET MIRAGE tour. “It is a very special song because we wrote it only with MOA in mind,” Yeonjun shared.

"There's no way to put into words how thankful we are for MOA. If TOMORROW X TOGETHER and MOA hold on to our memories of today, our blue spring and our youth will be a bright one just like the song." expressed Taehyun.

Along with the tenderness that came with the performance of ‘Our Summer’, impassioned MOAs proved, once again, that they possessed impressive spontaneity out of their love for TXT.

Observant MOAs took subtle cues from the members as they paused their singing towards the end of the track, making way for fans to sing the chorus on their own without any accompaniment. Beautiful combined fan vocals rang loud and clear in the air which resulted in a moment that deeply moved the five TXT members, with a few of them proceeding to remove their in-ear monitors in order to hear their fans better. Undoubtedly, it was a moment that spoke deeply of fans' unspoken chemistry with the group and even within the fandom itself.

Perhaps since it was TXT’s first time in Singapore, the members may have been uncertain of the response they would receive. Beomgyu shared: “I know MOA were excited to see us so I was a little nervous before we came on.” But by the end of the night, any doubts that were had vanished. TXT had nothing but pure love for their fans, from trying their hand out at Singlish to taking the time to take great care of and acknowledge MOAs wherever they are located in the stadium. MOAs at the show went above and beyond in return, showing how well-prepared they were to welcome the five artists.

True to the meaning of their fandom name, “Moments of Alwaysness”, MOAs and TXT have shown that they treasured every moment they spent with each other. A fan project with MOAs holding up a banner that states: “황금빛 태양 속 찬란하게 빛나는 영원의 약속 (Our promise of eternity that shines within the golden sun).” was held in reference to the lyrics of ‘Our Summer’ — a promise to always be by TXT’s side.

The saying “where words fail, music speaks” rings accurate as TXT are known for songs that seem to echo fans’ own sentiments that are also reminiscent of their youth. The five members never once deviated from their signature youthful sound and yet still proved that there’s more to TXT than meets the eye with their maturing concepts.

Towards the concert's end, TXT’s leader Soobin shared: “We haven’t visited MOA in Singapore before so I really wish we could spend more time [with you]. The concert is over but you know we will be back in Singapore for the next ACT. The energy that you gave us today will carry us to the rest of our tour. Thank you MOA, I love you guys.”

“After today, I’m already looking forward to our future concerts in Singapore. I think you are too. We’ll be back with even better songs to perform for you. I promise. Until then, don’t let your smile fade and keep up that energy. I can’t wait to have fun again with you next time.” Hueningkai added in the last ment.

TXT will continue the ACT: SWEET MIRAGE tour in Asia with the following stops in Taiwan and Japan before bringing their tour to the United States.
