Twitter is a space where virtually everyone talks about anything and everything. From live-tweeting their reactions to concerts, TV series, and sporting events to informative threads on current events and just memes in general.
On Thursday (12/09), Twitter Singapore unveiled the top 10 hashtags used in 2021 as well as the most tweeted about people in Singapore as part of #OnlyOnTwitter.

With ever-changing restrictions, the daily reporting of cases as well as people tuning into the government’s addresses to the public, #covid19’s edition into the top 10 comes at no surprise. The heavily-binged South Korean thriller #squidgame also made its entry alongside Disney+’s #wandavision. Do you hold? Do you sell? Singaporean Twitter users probably found those answers over at #bitcoin. #genshinimpact and #granbluefantasty’s entries into the list showed how Singaporeans gamed this year, while #sustainbility’s entry showed how environmentally conscious Singaporeans are.
The two major sporting events that took place this year in #tokyo2020 together with #euro2020 rounds up the sporting entries into the top 10, while football mammoths Manchester United whose tweet announcing the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo which boasts over half a million interactions also makes its way into the list with #mufc.
Through the topsy-turvy highs and lows of 2021, we’re all still in this together 🥰
