This June, Taiwanese and Singaporean Mandopop artists will share the stage at the weekend festival Calling in::music. Waa Wei (pictured, centre), Hello Nico (pictured, right), Boon Hui Lu and Ling Kai are among those set to perform.
Calling in::music is a collaboration between the Esplanade's in::music series, which showcases Chinese singer-songwriters and bands, and Taiwan's Calling Music Festival, which was founded in 2011 to promote Taiwanese indie music and has held events in Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Besides the aforementioned artists, also on the lineup are Taiwanese artists Kowen Ko (pictured, left), Zooey Wonder and Coconuts!, as well as Singaporean singer-songwriter Ruth Kueo. Kueo's most recent album The Greatest Journey was released last year. Taiwanese band Coconuts! formed in 2010 and last put out music in 2016, an EP titled The Crazy Hospital.
Ko's star is on the rise in Taiwan, having nabbed nominations for Best Male Singer and Best Newcomer at the 27th Golden Melody Awards for his debut album If You Still Wander. Wonder is also a newcomer to watch, having made the crossover from singer-songwriter armed with a guitar to electronic and ambient artist. She put out her debut album Wonderland last March.
