At the annual We The Fest, held in the heart of Jakarta, there's nothing else quite like it in the region.
With festivals like Laneway and Clockenflap, international line-ups take precedence, and the three days in Clockenflap are highlighted by art-related activities, while Laneway squeezes in the festival fun within an entire day — a formula they've come close to perfecting since their first Asian edition back in 2011.
We The Fest, though, takes elements from both festivals, and even prime international attractions like California's Coachella and Barcelona's Primavera, to present something quite stunning. One thing you'd notice at We The Fest is the sheer amount of local acts performing at the festival — from psych-rock legends The SIGIT to pop singer Raisa, it really goes without saying that WTF had something for everyone this year.
Yes, that meant even the EDM kids.

The dissonance of watching indie rock band Phoenix and EDM trio Cash Cash perform on the same stage, on the same night, was remarkable. The dissonance of seeing Indonesian president Joko Widodo — reputed for his love of heavy metal — enjoy Charli XCX's set though, that was priceless.
The set up of the festival itself was truly a wondrous sight – in between stages were neon-lit booths and tents that offered activities that begged you to stay. It would've been easy to lose track of the festival's schedule once you're there.
The main line-up of the festival featured the likes of Phoenix, Big Sean, Charli XCX, Kodaline, Snakehips, Hot Chip, LANY, Dua Lipa, Shura, Tuxedo and many, many more over the span of the entire weekend — from August 11th to 13th at the Jakarta International Expo.
This is only a fraction of what we caught at the massive festival.
