Wormrot announce departure of vocalist Arif: "Thank you for destroying your ears with our albums"

Wormrot frontman and founding member Arif has announced his departure from the band.

In a statement written on 31 May (Tuesday), the Singapore-based grindcore vocalist revealed that his decision to part ways with the band due to "personal hardships" that have taken a toll on his mental health. His wife, Azean, who also managed the band, has also stepped away from the group.

"There are many other factors that are just too personal to share," Arif writes. "Certain issues have become priorities that we just can’t avoid. It’s going to take us some time to recover. It was a difficult decision but our family is our priority and we do not wish to hold the band back."

He adds, "I have to stop pretending that I am still interested being in the band. It feels wrong and disrespectful to Rasyid and Vijesh whom I regard as part of my family. The best people I have ever worked musically with."

He closes his statement, thanking fans, past members, friends, and promoters for their love and support and for believing in him over the past 15 years. The band's upcoming album Hiss will be his final record with Wormrot.

Remaining members Rasyid and Vijesh share that Arif's decision to leave was difficult, but one they wholeheartedly respect. "Thank you Arif and Azean for the unforgettable memories. We wish happiness to your family," they write.
