Live music has a way of making you feel at home, regardless of the fact that you're surrounded by strangers you've never met before that night. It's a space where you can simply be, united in the music that makes your soul feel alive. For hundreds of Singaporean grindcore fans last Friday on Polling Day, that home was *SCAPE The Ground Theatre as a 450-strong crowd came together for Wormrot's homecoming stop of their Burning Desire world tour, presented by Bandwagon Live

Opened by homegrown bands Doldrey and Amateur Takes Control, the night was undeniably intense as mosh pits and stage dives were aplenty, but even with sore feet and a couple of bruises, the fire in our hearts burned bright as the local grindcore legends lit up the stage.

Wormrot, who are joined by Implore frontman Gabriel Dubko following the departure of former vocalist Arif Suhaimi last year, ran energies high as they performed tracks like 'All Will Wither,' 'Eternal Sunshine,' 'Buried The Sun,' 'Oblivious Mess,' 'Your Dystopian Hell,' 'Glass Shards,' and more.

"It was the highlight of all my years in Wormrot," revealed guitarist Rasyid Juraimi.

The band's unforgettable performance only comes second to the adrenaline and intensity of the crowd. When you've grown up feeling like an outcast, a community is hard to come by but Wormrot's show was the perfect example that it's out there and you'll feel like you belong in no time.

"Absolute goosebumps and catharsis for all of us who grew up loving a type of music that is deemed 'weird' by everyone around us and constantly condemned and never represented by public groups, mainstream media, and authorities. The fact that grindcore is one of the most obscure metal subgenres and a local grindcore band can sell out *SCAPE The Ground Theatre and sell 500 t-shirts in two hours shows that art, talent and passion transcend conformity," shared Bandwagon Live Events Manager and local hardcore scene icon, Nicholas Wong.

"This is why underground kids love going to gigs. It’s a congregation of all of us who are the same kind of weird and it’s a safe space where us weirdos are loved and accepted. The show was one of many examples that sometimes doing what you want and not following the status quo can lead to great things. [It was] no doubt a piece in the history of Singapore music and would be talked about for many years to come.”
