yama is coming to bring colour into your world.
The masked J-pop act has been cruising their way through Asia for the first time, kicking off the Thanks for Waiting tour in Kuala Lumpur this week and closing in Taipei on the fifth of December.
When they're not working on music for anime series like Spy X Family and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, performing for a live audience is what liberates for the mysterious artist. "The reason for wearing a mask was initially that I lacked self-confidence," they share in an interview with Bandwagon. "I'm not acting as an idealized version of myself or becoming a different person but as the artist 'yama,' I want to be a cool version of myself. Expressing that on stage feels quite liberating for me.
Bandwagon caught up with yama to talk about what fans can expect from their first Asia tour, their approach to songwriting, music recommendations, and more. Check out the interview below.
