Kicking down doors and breaking barriers, Yayoi Daimon is proving that she's her own boss.

With the release of her new EP, the Japanese hip-hop act is reiterating her message of confidence and courage above all else, even if all the cards are stacked against you.

"My family situation has been tough since I was a child, so I strongly wanted to make my own decisions. I felt a lot of inconveniences when living in a male society. We have to get our freedom, I want to give courage to those who suffer as much as I do," she tells Bandwagon.

In true Yayoi fashion, My Own Boss tells a story of self-affirmation and moving on from fear—which at the time of making the new record was a message she really needed to hear.

"Last year, I left the company I had been living with for many years and said farewell to my loved one. I felt depressed and couldn't write a song. At that time, I started making this EP and for the first time, I became the boss of my life and got responsible. I learned that by overcoming anxiety and moving forward, we can gain new happiness," says the 'Top Gyal' hitmaker.

My Own Boss spans five tracks including Yayoi's personal favourites: 'M.O.B' ft JNKMN and 'KING'

"'M.O.B' means My Own Boss and I wrote about [living] without fear in this song. While 'KING' was my first creation of this EP," she shares.

Much like most of life itself, the production on My Own Boss started riddled with anxiety and doubts but with a little bit of self-belief and help from an amazing, Yayoi put together an EP she is unbelievably proud of. "I am very happy to be able to work this way right now," she shares.

When asked what the creative process behind the EP was like, the 'MAKENNA' act said, "Making the music video is the toughest work for me. I'd kept in touch with all of the members like dancers, makeup artists, stylists and of course, the director team. I was being so picky about my creatives so it took a long time, but I am very happy."

"One more big thing is writing lyrics. When I'm writing lyrics, I'm so focused on mood that sometimes, I was crying and can't stop my pen."
