YouTube is rolling out a “most replayed parts of a video” highlight function.

After dominating the sphere of long-form video platforms for decades, the go-to social media site is now making its way to market its videos via a more palatable, short-form route.

How the new feature works is by depicting the most popular parts of the clip through a translucent graph right behind the regular progress bar of a video. In YouTube’s own description of the latest attribute, they explain that they hope to bring convenience to users’ who wish “to quickly find and watch those moments.”

The latest function has sparked discourse among K-pop fans, debating whether it is necessary or might fuel more fandom rivalries internally.

Nonetheless, most are simply thrilled about being able to watch their biases with increased ease.

Motivated by the rapidly decreasing attention span of the general public from 12 minutes to 5 as represented in a study, the company aims to divide original videos into more manageable and accessible chunks.

On top of this, an additional suite of upcoming features which help to loop parts of a video and allow viewers to find the most critical, “must-watch” moments are also in the works.
