Biography

Hankil is bent on finding alternative musical structures possessed by abandoned objects like clockworks, typewriters and telephones. After discovering the instrumental possibilities of a typewriter, he started to collaborate with writers. Born in 1975 in Seoul, South Korea, Hankil was a keyboard player in two famous Korean indie pop groups, but eventually left after he got tired of typical music making and sounds. He changed his outlook, his musical instrument and concentrated more on improvised music and sound related works. Between 2005 and 2008, Hankil organised a monthly improvised music concert called RELAY and established his own publishing office called The Manual. He also releases experimental, improvised music and small publications. He is a member of FEN (Far East Network) and A.Typist.
