Biography
The Laid Comers are a 5-piece band hailing from the sunny shores of Singapore. We comprise of frontman Sean, drummer Kok, guitarist ShouWei, keyboardist Oribelle and bassist Almo. Our songs can only be described as a mash whatever inspires us, blending rhythm and melody to thrash out some blues, funk, pop and rock. Our sound reflects our nature: fun-loving, sometimes unpredictable, but always a pleasure to have around. Back in ’09, three friends (Sean, Kok & Almo) came together as three fresh-faced musicians looking to explore the wonders of music, covering a diverse range of songs from the funky Red Hot Chili Peppers to the raw and energetic Nirvana to soulful, bluesy John Mayer. At that time, the NUS Kent Ridge Hall Rockers was our home as we took the chance to play with and learn from our peers. With opportunities to gig at fantastic venues such as Dempsey Hill, Hard Rock Coliseum at Sentosa and Timbre@Substation, we were sucked into this wonderful realm. While playing covers satisfied our appetite for great music, it also sparked a creative urge within us to interpret music in our own unique ways. What started off as random free jam sessions soon brought us down the road to composing our own originals. Our journey started with the decision to audition for Anaki Rocks Chinatown in 2011 and Anaki Rocks the City in 2012, events organised by Anaki Records to showcase local music. This path took us to a whole new altitude in our musicianship, as we dug deep to express ourselves through our own material. In 2013, we embarked on recording and producing our first EP. The aim was simple; to put everything we loved about music – head-banging rhythm, hip-swaying groove and heart-wrenching melodies, into 20 minutes of soundwaves. Through our music, we strove to create the ultimate aural sensation, and would not settle for less. ShouWei and Oribelle joined the fold in July 2015.Their immense knowledge of music and endless creativity will undoubtedly elevate our sound to a whole new level. With our EP nearing completion and our new 5-piece lineup, we look to take the nation by storm, one gig at a time.
