Ever since Greta Gerwig’s Barbie: The Movie was released to the world earlier this year, we got to witness Ryan Gosling’s and Simu Liu’s inner “Kenergy” in all its glory in Barbieland.

On 13 December, the latter took the opportunity to unleash it in the real world, specifically in a sold-out show at the Hotel Café in Los Angeles. Known for his role as Ken in Barbie: The Movie, the Canadian actor and singer-songwriter performed a rendition of ‘I’m Just Ken’ off the comedy film soundtrack.

“If there’s one thing that I want each and everyone of you to take away from this show tonight, in your hearts, is that you’re enough. I want you to do this with me right now, I want you to close your eyes and put your hand on your heart and repeat after me: ‘I. am. Kenough’,” Liu announced to the crowd before breaking into the track.

But just like any other Ken, Liu forgot the lyrics mid-song and shrugged it off. “The most Ken thing about this is that I forgot the part of the words to ‘I’m Just Ken’. What a great night!!!!” Liu candidly remarked in a Twitter post.

As the backing band started to pick up the intensity of the instrumentals for the next verse, Liu took off his leather jacket and geared up for the next segment. He declared to the concertgoers: “Are you ready to feel the Kenergy tonight? Let’s do this! You are Kenough, you are Kenough. Sing with me.”

With a whole lot of flexing and grunting, it was clear that Liu channeled all his “Kenergy” on stage as he treated the fans to a reenactment of the battle of Kens scene in Barbie: The Movie including his signature bow-and-arrow move. Fans audibly enjoyed the set, given the consistent cheers and laughter throughout.

“What a joy it was to sing, laugh, and ken around with the (sold out!) crowd at the hotel cafe. To everyone who bought a ticket and came out, know that you are a part of a core memory and my dream come true!” he shared in an Instagram post.

Apart from his distinct appearance in the film industry including his feat as a hero in Marvel StudiosShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Liu has recently dropped his debut EP ANXIOUS-AVOIDANT in November which highlights the themes of  love, sex, depression, and heartbreak.
