2021 is slowly coming to a close.

What a year it has been. From the continuous havoc of the pandemic to the gradual return of the live music industry, it's been quite the ride; and joining us through it all, has been some great tunes. From the breakup anthems we never knew we needed from Olivia Rodrigo to BTS' summer dance bop that had us side step, right-left to the beat, we had some good music this year. 

To celebrate it all, Apple Music has released several playlists of the top tracks – old and new – that we've enjoyed this 2021. This comes in conjunction with the latest instalment of the annual Apple Music Awards, where the streaming platform celebrates some of the biggest names in music. 

This year saw the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, H.E.R, The Weeknd, OFFICIAL HIGE DANDISM, Aya Nakamura, and more walk away with an array of accolades.

As part of their 2021 playlists, Apple Music rounded up the Top 100 global songs of the year which sees none other than BTS' GRAMMY-nominated hit 'Dynamite' at No. 1, joined by their summer hit 'Butter' further down the list.

Also joining the pop group is breakout star Olivia Rodrigo with her viral debut single 'drivers license', 'good 4 u', 'deja vu', and traitor'. 

Artists like Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Silk Sonic, and more also make it onto the global playlists, joined by Japanese acts like LiSA and YOASOBI

In Singapore, BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, Renren, BLACKPINKand Ariana Grande round out Apple Music's top 5 songs of the year. Joining them are the likes of Crowd Lu, ROSÉ from BLACKPINK, IU, Eric Chou, Lewis Capaldi, Justin Bieber, and more. 

As part of their year-end round-up, Apple Music also revealed the songs that had the most-read lyrics and that received the most Shazams

The former sees Olivia Rodrigo's backstory-fuelled breakup track 'drivers license' at No. 1, joined by her own 'good 4 u', Yuuri's 'Dried Flower', BTS' 'Dynamite', and Doja Cat and SZA's 'Kiss Me More' rounding out the top 5. 

While the most Shazam-ed songs of the year include Masked Wolf's 'Astronaut In The Ocean', The Weeknd's 'Save Your Tears', Ed Sheeran's 'Bad Habits', Olivia Rodrigo's 'drivers license', and Måneskin's 'Beggin' as the top 5.
