What was meant to be a spectacular three-day event left attendees with a sour taste instead. The Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP), one of Southeast Asia’s largest electronic dance music festivals, has come under fire following reports of safety concerns during its recent event. The organizers have issued a public apology, addressing complaints from attendees about alleged aggressive treatment by local police and broader concerns over festival security.

In an official statement shared on social media, DWP organizers reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of all festival-goers. "Your safety, well-being, and overall experience will always be our highest priorities and at the heart of everything we do," the statement read. The organizers encouraged attendees who encountered safety issues to provide detailed accounts to aid ongoing investigations.

Several festival-goers took to social media to share alleged encounters with law enforcement, describing them as unnecessarily aggressive. These reports included claims of heavy-handed security checks, verbal intimidation, extortions, and incidents of excessive force, with even VIP attendees reportedly subjected to rough treatment. Many expressed feelings of fear and discomfort, noting that the actions of some officers overshadowed what should have been a festive and celebratory event.

The event saw a significant police presence, with Polda Metro Jaya deploying 450 personnel to ensure security. This heightened security was intended to maintain order but has been criticized by some attendees as contributing to an oppressive atmosphere.

As investigations continue, attendees are encouraged to report any incidents directly to festival organizers or authorities. Organizers have also pledged to update the public on the findings and any additional measures they will put in place ahead of future events. aFor now, the controversy has cast a shadow over what is typically a highly anticipated annual festival, leaving many to question the balance between security and enjoyment at large-scale events.
