International education and advocacy organisation Global Citizen has unveiled a star-studded lineup for its upcoming special online concert.

Titled "VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World", the event's goals are to push for "equitable vaccine distribution around the world", encourage people to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and celebrate the bright future that those who have received their vaccinations can look forward to.

Hosted by singer and actress Selena Gomez, VAX LIVE, which is supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO), will bring together some of the biggest names from the international music scene. Acts who are set to make appearances include pop star Jennifer Lopez, alternative rockers Foo Fighters, Colombian reggaeton singer J Balvin, South Korean boy band NCT 127 (via the extended stream on YouTube), R&B singer-songwriter H.E.R., and Pearl Jam's frontman and guitarist Eddie Vedder.

“This is a historic moment to encourage people around the world to take the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available to them, call on world leaders to share vaccine doses equitably, and to bring people together for a night of music in a way that hasn’t felt possible in the past year. I can’t wait to be a part of it," said Selena Gomez.

Dr Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health stressed the importance of events such as VAX LIVE. She said: “Global Citizen and VAX LIVE are showing us all what is possible when vaccinations are combined with strict safety measures. I am grateful for their commitment to this effort and appreciate the many partners from across the world coming together to raise awareness about the importance of getting vaccinated."

The pre-recorded concert will be held at Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium, which was converted into a mass vaccination centre in March. It is scheduled to premiere on Global Citizen's YouTube channel at 8 PM ET on 8 May (8 AM SG/PH/MY Standard Time on 9 May).
